Goshavank and Mkhitar Gosh
Goshavank Monastery, located in the Tavush region, is associated with the scholar Mkhitar Gosh, who lived approximately from 1130 to 1213.
Following the destruction of an earlier monastery by earthquake, a new monastic complex developed at Nor Getik.
The monastery later became known as Goshavank in honor of its distinguished scholar.
Mkhitar Gosh was an important Armenian legal thinker, theologian, and author.
His Lawcode, or Datastanagirk, became a major contribution to Armenian legal literature.
Goshavank also became a center of manuscript production and education.
Its architectural heritage includes churches, a library building, and notable khachkars.
